We all know police vehicles are only supposed to be used in connection with authorised police duty; however, a video is circulating on social media showing a police vehicle venturing into taxi business.

The vehicle in the video is attached to the police VIP escort vehicles and it was parked around Ministry of Internal Affairs offices in Kampala. In the video, a tout is heard calling passengers heading to Luzira at a charge of Shs3000.

However, despite the current threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, the passengers were not observing any social distancing and most of them had no masks.

The video has drawn the attention of AIGP Asan Kasingye, the chief Political Commissar in Uganda Police who revealed that investigations are underway.

“We are currently reviewing our policy on attaching escort vehicles to VIPs. Some of them use their relatives to drive these vehicles as was in this case. The vehicle was in control of a civilian driver attached to this VIP. After dropping his boss, he stupidly did this!”
