Makerere University has received a $1m (about Shs3.7 billion) donation from Mastercard Foundation to help rebuild its main building which was gutted by fire.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (in-charge of academics) Ass. Prof. Umar Kakumba confirmed the news saying;  “It is true that we are set to get this money. We do thank the Mastercard Foundation, which has been supportive to us for the last five years.”

Last weekend grief and shock engulfed the nation as the historical building of Makerere University Ivory Tower caught fire. The institutes’ Vice Chancellor Prof. Barbanas Nawangwe who happens to be an architect revealed that the university will need to raise around Shs20b to reconstruct the Ivory Tower.
