Yesterday, Kasangati was a scene of chaos as Police swung into action to stop the proposed consultation meetings of People Power leader and Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine that had been organised at Our Lady of Good Counsel Gayaza Grounds.

After arresting Bobi Wine together with People Power Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, MPs Latif Ssebagala, Asuman Basalirwa and others, the situation escalated when People Power supporters demanded their leaders to be released and what ensued was Police firing bullets and teargas in Kasangati to disperse them.

In the process, the Kasangati Officer in Charge (OC) of Operations Andrew Angume got hit with a teargas canister than was aimed at the rowdy crowd. Angume sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Police said that they blocked Bobi Wine’s consultation meetings because he was not following the directives given to him by the Electoral Commission that he was to hold the meetings in closed venues, and not open grounds as he was poised to do yesterday.
