Breaking from tradition, the ministry of Education and Sports together with the Uganda National Examination Board will tomorrow (Friday, January 17) release last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations at Kampala Parents School.

While appearing before Parliament to ask for an increment in the education budget this morning, First Lady Janet Museveni who is also the Minister for Education and Sports was tasked by Budiope West MP Robert Musoke to explain why the PLE results will be released at a private school and not a government institution as it has always been the case.

Kampala Parents, one of the leading primary schools in the country is owned by tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia.

Ms Museveni told Parliament that they were forced to change venues because the hall they normally use is currently not fit to host the event and also noted that the venue was granted to them free of charge.

“We are not paying anything to release the results at Kampala Parents. We normally use the President’s Office Hall because we are strictly not willing to pay for halls when we have government halls. However, the air conditioning of the hall we normally use has not been working, and you can’t put people in halls where there is no fresh air,” she said.

“We were looking for other places where we can go and not pay. That’s how we got into Kampala Parents,” she noted.

Former UNEB Chairperson Lutalo Bossa was one of the individuals who spoke against the ministry’s move to release the results at a private school, since it will be one of the recipients of the results. Ms Museveni however said the change of venue could not cause a change in the results being released.

“There is no difference between releasing the results in a private school or government school if we are not paying for the venue. What’s the difference? Nothing,” she said.
