As politicians and the country at large question prepares for the 2021 general elections, a lot has been going on with political parties holding delegates conferences, consultation meetings among other activities.

In line with the same, Electoral Reforms have been tabled in Parliament and are going through scrutiny process by the Parliamentary Legal Committee, which process the opposition and Civil Societies want to be quick and have them passed before the 2021 general Elections.

Ndorwa East Member of Parliament and Shadow Attorney General Wilfred Niwagaba questioned the appointment process of the staff of Electoral Commission.

Niwagaba claims that he has never seen the Electoral Commission advertising for jobs in different media outlets, and came to a conclusion that they are ‘handpicked.’

Niwagaba, who is an Independent Member of Parliament, introduced a Constitution Amendment Bill and its debate on the floor of Parliament commenced on Wednesday this week. If passed into law, it will grant voters powers to challenge a Presidential election if the voter gets 100 signatures from 2/3 of districts in Uganda.
