Speaking at the 39th Anniversary of Tarehe Sita in Nakaseke district yesterday, President Yoweri Museveni assured Ugandans that government is ahead of schedule in fighting the invasion of locusts into Uganda.

Uganda has been on high alert in anticipation of a possible invasion of desert locusts that invaded Kenya earlier this year. However, it is reported that they are only about 60 kilometers away from Amudat and Kaabong districts in North Eastern Uganda.

President Museveni said after convening for a meeting with all the responsible authorities, they agreed to temporarily procure aircraft that will do the aerial spraying in case the locusts invade Uganda.

He added that government will soon move further to buy its own planes that will fight locusts. Last month, Parliament approved Shs15 billion to aid in the fight.

On the recent threat of Coronavirus, Museveni claimed that the epidemic is not as serious as AIDS saying it is easy to tackle. He nevertheless urged Ugandans to be vigilant.
