Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Beti Kamya yesterday on Tuesday formally joined National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Kamya, the former President of Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) party does not regret the switch one bit, claiming she is now back home.

“Being in the NRM is like coming back home. The story of the prodigal son happens often and mine is no different,” Kamya said during an interview.

The minister revealed that for the short time she has been engaging with members of the NRM, she feels it is the most comfortable environment.

Kamya claimed that President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM party are heads and shoulders above other politicians and political parties respectively.

“The people of Uganda are very comfortable and secure with the leadership of the NRM. The level of tolerance of President Museveni has not been seen among other parties or in other countries,” she said.

As we are heading for the 2021 general elections, Kamya asserted that 2021 already belongs to President Museveni because opposition politicians are only concentrating in urban areas that have just about 20% of voters. Despite the readiness of Bobi Wine to go against Museveni, Kamya thinks Dr Kizza Besigye still holds the highest share of opposition votes.

“People like to support something strong. The die-hard opposition will support Besigye,” she said.
