Police conduct surprise raid along Northern bypass, arrests over 140 suspected criminals

A joint security team commanded by the Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police, CP Moses Kafeero last night carried out an operation along the Northern bypass and arrested several suspected hard core criminals.
According to Police, the operation follows several complaints from the public reporting about thugs along the Northern bypass who attack and assault them before taking away their property.

The operation was conducted in the areas of Kawempe, Wandegeya, Kalerwa, Kyebando, Kisasisi, Bweyogere, and Kiira road.

Criminals found with sticks of marijuana among other things.

However, most suspects were netted along the Northern bypass stretch. About 147 suspects were arrested (Kawempe 40, Wandegeya 48, Kira Division 10, and Kira road 49).

Police say the suspects were found with exhibits that included; marijuana, suspected stolen phones, breaking implements and knives.

They are currently detained at Kawempe, Kira Road and Wandegeya Police Stations pending screening and Court respectively. Police say such operations will continue in various urban areas.
