Two police officers ASP Simon Peter Nkonge attached to the Police Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department, SPC Martin Kimbowa, a retired Flying Squad officer, and one civilian Allan Ssendegeya were on Monday arrested by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).

The trio was reportedly caught red-handed with Shs250 million which they had solicited from Vicent Ruyinda, a city tycoon who owns various buildings in Kampala with Kooki Towers opposite CPS Kampala being one of his known property.

Tycoon Vicent Ruyinda

According to Police CID spokesperson Charles Mansio Twine, ASP Nkonge and colleagues started their mission last year in September by approaching Ruyinda and telling him how they were investigating his alleged human sacrifice case at one of his construction site on Buganda Road that happened back in 2014.

The group apparently demanded for Shs70 million to drop the investigations and Ruyinda accepted.  However, Ruyinda delayed to pay the money which prompted the trio to increase the amount to Shs250 million.

Ruyinda decided to involve police CID that followed up the matter and this week on Monday together with the CMI managed to finally arrest the trio.

Twine said Ruyinda was asked to call Nkonge and colleagues to come to Nsangi and pick their money. The group immediately arrived at the agreed location and Ruyinda handed them the money. However, a few minutes later the CMI officers that had camped at the location showed face and arrested them.

They are currently being held at Kabalagala Police Station as further investigations are being conducted.
