Ugandan football fans have had a tendency of turning rowdy when matches don’t go their way, or when match officials make on-field decisions that don’t satisfy them, feeling that their team is being cheated.

Things sometimes get bad to the extent of opposing fans fighting, destroying stadium property, and beating up match officials and players. When this happens, the match is usually abandoned, and such incidents scare away fans that don’t want to get involved in that ruckus.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has on several occasions come out to punish and fine clubs whose fans get involved in this unbecoming behavior, and is now requiring clubs to do more.

In a press conference held today, FUFA has ordered all StarTimes Uganda Premier League Clubs to employ a ‘Security and Safety’ personnel and deploy at least 10 stewards each match. FUFA said that these will work hand in hand with Police to maintain order during matches.

The Uganda Premier League has been on break as some clubs had sent their players to the Uganda Cranes camp in preparation of the now postponed CHAN tournament.
