Uganda confirmed her first case of COVID-19 a few minutes past midnight on Saturday and the Ministry of Health said he is a 36-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Dubai at 2:00 am on March 21, 2020 aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

During a press briefing today, Dr Joyce Moriku, the State Minister for Primary healthcare, said the patient has shown signs of improvement. The patient is still receiving treatment at Entebbe Grade B Hospital.

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport on Saturday, the now recovering patient presented with symptoms of high fever and poor appetite during screening at the airport, posting 38 degrees. This prompted health officials at the airport to get samples from him. Samples were then taken to Uganda Virus Research Institute where the patient was tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Moriku also said all the other 84 people who travelled with the patient were traced and put under institutional quarantine.

“The good thing is that the immigration department had all their details,” Moriku said.

Since midnight, Uganda officially implemented a ban on all flights coming into Uganda.
