Last night, rumours of the passing of Bank of Uganda (BoU) Governor Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebire’s passing circulated on social media. Bank of Uganda was quick to come out and refute all claims and clarified on the health condition of their boss.

In a tweet shared this morning on their official Twitter account, Bank of Uganda said that Mutebile is currently out of office taking a sick leave, and that he is responding quickly to treatment, and will resume work soon as doctors deem him fit to do so.

“On Wednesday March 25, 2020 Prof Mutebile, Bank of Uganda Governor took sick leave. He is receiving treatment in a Ugandan medical facility and will resume duty as soon as he has recuperated. Strongly disregard the false and malicious stories of his passing,” the Central Bank said on Twitter.
