Uganda’s coronavirus (COVID19) cases have been shooting up almost on a daily since the confirmation of the first case barely a fortnight ago. Amongst the 44 cases of COVID-19 that have been confirmed so far, the Health Ministry revealed that some of the patients were not in quarantine and had engaged with the general public.

This caused fear amongst the population prompting many to demand for a mass testing. In his address yesterday evening, President Yoweri Museveni played down the possibility of mass testing.

“Mass testing is very expensive and meaningless. You may test today and tomorrow you get exposed. It is only better to test with signs,” Museveni said.

Museveni said a coronavirus testing kit goes for $65 (about Shs240000) and Uganda has about 42 million people. He revealed that as of now, the country has received only 2000 coronavirus testing kits.

Yesterday, the Health ministry ran samples of 179 individuals and 11 tested positive, all children who belong to Watoto church.
