Yesterday, the number of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Uganda cases jumped to 14 after 11 more cases were confirmed by the Ministry of Health, after running tests on 179 suspects that are currently in quarantine.

All the 11 new cases confirmed are members of the Watoto Church Children’s Choir who flew back home from the United Kingdom (UK) and Canada on March 20, 2020. On arrival, they were put under quarantine by the Ministry of Health, and the Church has released a statement saying that those that tested positive have been immediately isolated and taken for treatment.

According to a statement released by Watoto, the first member to test positive was an adult chaperon on March 27, and those that tested positive yesterday include six children and three adults, and they are all from the team that flew in from the UK.

Although this is the case, Watoto said that all of the other children and mothers in Watoto Villages are still unexposed to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Thankfully none of the adults or children on the choir returning from Canada, has shown any signs of the virus. All of the Watoto children and mothers in our Watoto Villages remain unexposed to the virus, and are safe and healthy,” the statement signed by Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, Associate Team Leader, Watoto, partly reads.
