Since the passing of various directives by President Museveni in bid to combat the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, security forces especially police and Local Defense Units (LDUs) have been accused of lynching Ugandans when enforcing directive.

On Friday while giving his seventh address since the outbreak of coronavirus in Uganda, Museveni termed them ‘pigs’ before warning them to stop interpreting his directives in a ‘Kiyaye’ way. He also instituted Col Edith Nakalema to lead the operation of arresting security officers that brutalize Ugandans in this trying situation.

Kampala Archbishop, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has added his voice to condemning the brutal acts of security officers during the Palm Sunday mass at Lubaga Cathedral.

“In other countries, people are using masks to cover their mouths to avoid contracting coronavirus but in Uganda, people are rather being covered with canes,” Archbishop Lwanga said. He recommended the officers to peacefully enforce the set guidelines.

Lwanga also called upon Ugandans to entrust God because he’s the only one who will takes us through this worrying condition.

Archbishop Lwanga thanked the President, Ministry of health and the Pope for guiding Ugandans and the world into safety during this trying time. He advised Christians across the country to observe the guidelines during the Holy week and into the Easter weekend.

“All masses will be broadcast live on our social media platforms as well as different media outlets. Please follow the prayers from your homes and keep praying,” he advised.

The Archbishop said he will lead the main Easter celebration mass starting at 10 a.m. next Sunday. He also pointed out that there will be no baptism on Easter Monday.
