Police continue to discipline their officers that have strayed from the official duties of keeping law and order to keeping people in fear of losing their life and property with merciless and unreasonable beatings.

On Sunday last week, Police arrested 14 of their officers and those from the Local Defence Unit (LDU) that allegedly assaulted 38 victims round the country following President Museveni labelling them ‘pigs’ and promising to deal with them very harshly.

Yesterday, a Police officer Francis Mpande and a Village Defence Unit officer Asimwe Junior were remanded by the Col Edith Nakalema-led State House Anti-Corruption Unit until April 27 for assaulting the pregnant Mercy Nakate.

It is alleged that while enforcing the President’s order of curfew to start at 7 p.m. around the country, these officers took it a little bit too far and ended up brutalising people, actions that have been immensely condemned by the public, forcing the President to command Col Edith Nakalema to deal with all those errant officers that have been reported.
