A few days ago, National Drug Authority (NDA) ordered for the arrest of Robert Mijumbi, a graduate of Science Technology – Biology from Kyambogo University who claimed to have found the cure of the deadly COVID-19.

Mijumbi, a biotechnologist and a resident of Bweyogerere in Wakiso was yesterday arrested by Police. His rental was searched and it was found out that his bedroom acted as the laboratory.

“Don’t trash my creativity, support my ideas for the better,” Mijumbi said before apologizing for using a wrong platform (YouTube) when appealing to government and health institutions to support his initiative.

However, the National Drug Authority (NDA) Secretary, David Nahamya dismissed his findings as unproven. Nahamya said before any drug/vaccine is approved for use, it has to be brought to their laboratories for tests.

He revealed that Mijumbi is likely to face a 2-year sentence if found guilty of announcing and putting on market a non-authorized drug.

On April 10, 2020, Mijumbi wrote to the Ministry of Health about his cure for COVID-19. He told the Ministry that he has been secretly doing independent research in the field of molecular medicine and one of his key milestones is discovering the cure for HIV.
