While Members of Parliament are being castigated by the public for sharing Shs10 billion for their ‘own benefit’ in fight against COVID-19, Afande Maneno Ayikoru yesterday contributed Shs200,000 towards fighting the pandemic in Uganda.

Maneno brought her donation in cash and handed it over to the National Taskforce at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala. She joins a short list of surprising categories of people to donate to the cause. A water fetcher over the weekend donated Shs5000 towards the same cause.

Yesterday more donations were made and these included Gateway Bus Company offering eight buses to transport health workers around the country.

“This is a big boost. The buses will be used to transport health workers and people who need to be quarantined from borders to the quarantine centers,” said Dr Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health.

The East Africa Community Secretariat also flagged off mobile laboratories and test kits as well as all the necessary consumables for a fully functional laboratory with the capacity to conduct tests for Ebola and the coronavirus to partner states.

Ministry of Health yesterday ran 1,032 samples and they all tested NEGATIVE of COVID-19. 551 samples were from truck drivers at border points of entry. 481 samples were from individuals under institutional quarantine and contacts to confirmed cases. Confirmed cases of COVID-19 stand at 55 and the recoveries are 12.
