Democratic Party (DP) President Norbert Mao has saluted the leadership skills exhibited by government especially President Museveni since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Uganda.

Speaking during NBS TV Frontline Show, Mao said in a crisis, Ugandans must accept to even do unusual things.

“If a house is burning, I will grab you by your leg, you can’t quarrel the next day,” Mao said.

He added, “Even though it says jumping cures COVID-19, we have to jump.”

Mao asserted that Museveni is also gaining firm political ground in this COVID-19 situation.

“For the politicians, the President is campaigning each time he comes on TV. His listenership had declined but because of COVID-19, everyone listens. It is an opportunity for him,” he said.

On those breaking directives, Mao said it is inevitable for majority Ugandans not to violate the guidelines because the highest number of the population survive on hand to mouth earning.

“It is difficult to stay disciplined while your stomach is grumbling. I said we need Shs600 million just for food, I still stand by my word,” he said.

Mao said even when the nation manages to defeat coronavirus, the habit of washing hands should stay with us.
