Many children in Uganda are reportedly forced into “transactional sex” with older men to support their families. A fresh video circulating on social media shows a young girl who is fed up of being ‘sold’ by her biological mother for ‘survival’ of the family.

In the video, a 14-year-old Nakiboneka Sophia says her mother has been forcing her to sleep around with old men in exchange of cash and food handouts.

Sophia reveals that the mother sometimes even brings men at their home to sleep with her (Sophia).

“I am tired of being used. I want to leave home but I have nowhere to go,” Sophia tearfully says.

She also discloses that she is five months pregnant and she does not know the father of the yet-to-be-born baby.

Since the video started circulating, no government or NGO has come out to comment or take up the matter. We strongly condemn these child exploitation and defilement acts.
