“Masks” is the hottest topic right now after President Museveni yesterday directed that it is mandatory for every Ugandan to have a mask while in the public.

Museveni went further to emphasize that no ordinary masks will be worn revealing that government has laboured itself to provide them to all Ugandans aged six years and above free of charge. The said masks will be produced by Nyanza Textile Industries Limited (NYTIL).

The President said the masks will be ready for distributions to all Ugandans in a period of two weeks. However, as Matooke Republic, we have endeavoured to weigh the applicability of the time length when the masks will be ready and distributed.

Following the emergency of coronavirus, lots of companies around the world resorted to manufacturing masks. And according to various sources, the world’s fastest mask-making machine is in South China’s Guangdong Province where it was launched this year in February.

The factory has the capacity of assembling 1,000 medical masks per minute and 1.2 million per day. Now going by the fastest machine, it will need about 26 days to assemble masks for about 31 million Ugandans above the age of 6 years.

Does Nytil have the capacity to match or get near to the production capacity of the fastest machine in the world? All eyes on them.
