I have got the qualities to be President – Katikkiro Mayiga

Without confirming when, Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister, Charles Peter Mayiga has revealed that he can ably occupy the country’s top office.

Speaking during NTV’s On the Spot Show, Mayiga said though at the moment his ambition is to lead the kingdom on behalf of the King, he has the qualities to be President.

“If you are asking whether I have got the qualities to be President I think I do have them,” Mayiga said.

The Katikkiro, however, said that Uganda has lots of capable personalities that can lead the country if the rule of law and good governance and emphasised.

“If you have the rule of law, every region is going to get what they aspire for. The President could be anybody, what is important is to have the institutions of the State running affairs of the country,” he said. 

Mayiga said it is a responsibility of government to protect every aspirant irrespective of their political ideology, ethnic region and religion.

“The country requires an atmosphere under which people can express themselves freely. People should be able to meet their supporters and introduce to them their agendas without being beaten,” Mayiga said.

Charles Peter Mayiga has been the Katikkiro of Buganda since May, 2013.
