Fort Portal police on Monday arrested two of their own officers accused of moving in public places without wearing facemasks. The unnamed Police officers were arrested on the orders of Kabarole Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Steven Asimwe when they showed up at Mpanga market without face masks.

Asiimwe, who had gone to commission new access routes in the market, appealed to members of the general public to inform him whenever they see security officers in public places without masks.

President Yoweri Museveni made it compulsory for all Ugandans to wear face masks in public places to curb the spread of COVID 19.  Equally, the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola directed all Police officers to use face masks while on duty to avoid contracting the novel coronavirus.

At least two Police officers have in the past tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Uganda.
