Today, President Yoweri Museveni has addressed the country as part of celebrations of Heroes Day, the day that is celebrated every 9th of June to honour all those that served the country with utmost dedication and selflessness.

Live from State House Entebbe, Museveni has highlighted several things among which were corruption, praise for past heroes, and presently, the dedication and brains of our health workers that are doing everything to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Museveni said that there is a big potential for Ugandan scientists to come up with COVID-19 vaccine and cure before western countries but most times their innovations are covered below the carpet by corrupt officials he referred to as ‘parasites’.

“Even this COVID-19 medicine, we can get it before the Europeans get it if we get rid of the parasites. Our scientists are good but they are being failed by people who care about themselves alone and not the country,” Museveni said.

Recently, Museveni has become a big fan of Ugandan scientists like medical doctors, nurses, researchers, and engineers among others, and has vehemently advocated for better pay and improved their working conditions to help them perform to their full potential.

Currently, scientists around the world are in a global race to find the cure and/or vaccine for COVID-19, the disease that has infected more than 7 million people and more than 400,000 have succumbed to it worldwide since its outbreak late last year.
