Although the Electoral Commission (EC) dismissed claims that Uganda will hold a scientific election come 2021 and clarified that only the campaigns will be conducted online and on-air, the notion of a ‘scientific election’ has been already ingrained in the minds of the public, and politicians continue to punch holes in the entire idea.

This morning, former Minister of Ethics and Integrity Miria Matembe has reiterated what other opposition figures have been saying after EC’s announcement, that the revised 2021 election roadmap favours nobody but the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and other incumbents.

“This program of scientific elections is good for the incumbents but closes off other people who have desires to offer themselves. The NRM is the only party that has rights and power to hold meetings. They go to the State House and use our money,” Matembe said while appearing on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze.

She adds, “Other political parties have no right to meet unless they ask for police permission that is denied.”

Matembe also claims that COVID-19 pandemic has been a blessing for mostly President Museveni and Members of Parliament.

“All of them have kept earning during the lockdown. When you go to Parliament, they robbed us through the supplementary budget. They have been seen; they are known and have everything,” Matembe says.
