Lockdown measures may be re-introduced if we are not careful- Minister Judith Nabakooba

As Uganda yesterday reported her fifth COVID-19 death, Minister of Information, Communications Technology, Judith Nabakooba says the COVID-19 fatigue amongst Ugandans is a time bomb that might lead to a second lockdown.

Minister Nabakooba says government doesn’t want a lockdown, but sometimes circumstances dictate especially since masses have become complacent about the set Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

“We have sensitized the masses, but they are not following the guidelines. People started relaxing because our numbers were low, and people were not dying.

Our health system will be overwhelmed if we don’t do the right thing. Lockdown measures may be re-introduced if we are not careful,” Nabakooba said.

The Ministry of Health yesterday confirmed 13 new COVID-19 cases bringing the cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda to 1,195. Out of the 13, five were truck drivers, four were contacts of the previous confirmed cases, two were returnees while two werealerts from Buikwe and Kampala areas. The cumulative recoveries in Uganda stand at 1,070.
