Besigye is just withdrawing for now to allow Bobi Wine burn his fingers and then come back in 2026 – Presidential Press Secretary Don Wanyama

Political players are continuing to react differently about Dr Kizza Besigye’s decision not to stand for President in the forthcoming elections.

Don Wanyama, the Presidential Press Secretary has first applauded Besigye for being a great contributor to the growth of Uganda’s political systems. However, he said the ruling NRM is not shaken by his decision as it is a concern for only those in the opposition.

Wanyama said Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform is hoping to reap from Besigye’s exit which will not be case. He said Besigye is only giving them chance to test the presidential race waters.

“Besigye is just withdrawing, for now, allow the Kyagulanyi’s burn their fingers and then come back in 2026,” Wanyama said.

The former Daily Monitor journalist claimed that NUP is promising more than they can deliver and soon the hard reality will hit them.

“You don’t have structures and you think you are going to win the election?” Don said.

“You can’t say you going to shake up and fail to field youth candidates in about 90% of the areas. This is a show of what will happen in the next General Election, I’ll be shocked if they even get the 2% in the coming election,” he added.
