UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso has disclosed that the army is considering reinforcing Uganda Police Force across the country by giving more tasks to the Local Defence Units (LDUs). Byekwaso said plans are under way to have a detailed security plan.

Byekwaso said Ugandans especially in the urban areas has totally become reluctant when it comes to complying with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

“If it continues like this, we shall have no option but to bring the LDUs to do the enforcement,” Brig Byekwaso said.

The units were taken for refresher courses and earlier this month of August, they resumed active operations but only at night.
