As we continued for confirmation of the next Presidential nation address about COVID-19, new developments coming in indicates that the COVID-19 National Taskforce led by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda agreed on the reopening of places of worship.

According to sources that attended the meeting on Monday, the taskforce proposed that the places of worship can resume operations with a maximum of 70 people in attendance. Such manageable numbers can be able to follow the Standard Operating Procedures.

However, sources reveal that the proposal is subjected to amendment as it was sent to President Yoweri Museveni for final consideration and approval.

“Those were proposals and the final decision will be made after the meeting today (yesterday) with President Museveni. Anything there can change because the President not only makes the final decision but there are other people who might be in the meeting and might propose alternatives. We usually have various debates and President Museveni makes a decision based on sound evidence,” Senior presidential advisor on epidemics, Dr Monica Musenero, told Daily Monitor.

The taskforce also agreed on the reopening of Entebbe airport, boarders and universities for final year medical students.

The Task-force said COVID-19 regulations should be strictly enforced in Kampala with penalties, which include community work and fines to those who defy the guidelines.
