Boda boda man sets himself on fire after officers impounded his boda for operating beyond curfew time

Following the presidential directive of curfew time starting at 9pm and bodas stopping work at 6pm, a 26 year old boda boda man identified as Emma Kabanda is nursing injuries in Kirudu hospital after setting himself on fire at kireka police station compound.

This was after Kireka police officers impounded his motorcycle for operating beyond curfew time.

According to Kampala metropolitan police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, Kabada’s motorcycle was ceased by a traffic officer at around 8pm at Kireka check point for allegedly defying curfew time.

The Kira division police is investing the circumstance under which the rider burnt himself at police station.

In an effort to curb the spread of Covid 19 and reduce crime rates, the president issued a directive ordering all cyclists to stop work at 6 pm, however some riders defy the directives and ride past the time.

This is not the first case like this, a 29-year-old Boda boda rider identified as Hussein Walugembe also set himself on fire at Masaka Central Police in Masaka City after he failed to recover his impounded motorcycle.
