Following the suspension of the Ssembabule District NRM party primaries due to violence that escalated between Sodo Kaguta’s camp and Shartsi Kutesa’s camp, the district earlier today held the elections amidst heavy deployment.

After peaceful voting Sodo Aine Godfrey Kaguta was declared the Mawogola North NRM flag bearer. Sodo Kaguta gathered  17,343 votes (46%) while his biggest competitor Shartsi Kutesa gathered 16,104 votes (42.7%) and Kisekka Salim got 4,274 (11.3%).

According to a reliable source, Shartsi Kutesa petitioned the NRM Electoral Commission even before the winner was declared. Shartsi who was defeated by Sodo with 3.3% of the total votes rejected the results announced by Dr Tanga Odoi.

“I believe we have not been defeated, we have been cheated. I will be submitting my petition covering six villages where I have major concern seeking the NRM commission’s new judgement on these elections,” said Shartsi.

Shartsi also thanked her supporters for their support and also assured them that this is not the end of their journey.
