On Monday Kawempe North incumbent Member of Parliament Hon. Latif Ssebaggala officially announced his shocking u-turn of seeking re-election.

Latif who subscribes to the National Unity Platform had announced not to return for the same position as he vied to oust Erias Lukwago from his position of Kampala Lord Mayor.

NUP handed Latif the flag to contest for Kampala Lord Mayor however, a few days later he bowed out of the position saying he did it for the good of the opposition.

This week he declared his intentions to defend his position. Just as the public was getting to terms with his return, Latif who has been in parliament since 2001 now says he wants to stay till 2030.

He says his seniority and flexibility in leadership will make the Kawempe North constituents vote for him until 2030 when he hopes to retire.

However, his opponent Muhammad Ssegirinya who is also the NUP flag bearer says Latif has served enough and needs to give chance to the youths.

“We should now be consulting Latif Ssebagala on how to run Kawempe North after 20 years of him as the MP. We can’t condemn President Museveni for over staying in power yet there are MPs who also overstay,” says Ssegirinya.
