With the ongoing campaigns across the country, Police has vowed to adopt a tougher approach on  candidates that defy the set Electoral Commission guidelines.

While addressing the press, the Director Operation, AIG Edward Ochom informed the public on the enhancement of the enforcement mechanisms on Uganda Electoral Commission guidelines.

According to Ochom, despite repeated warnings issued to candidates, their agents and wider public about the negative impact and health risks of holding unauthorised rallies and processions, the police continues to witness acts of defiance and total disregard of the Electoral Commission.

“Those who shall defy these Electoral commission guidelines with their sinister plans aimed at disrupting the electoral commission process will definitely suffer consequences,” said Ochom

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, gatherings were limited to only 200 people as a measure to curb the deadly virus.

Ochom also urged everyone to be vigilant and cautious during the political campaigns. The National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi was today arrested in Luuka district for reportedly defying the EC guidelines
