Airtel Uganda has released a statement indicating that they have scrapped the “Tugabane” feature on some of their Internet features. The feature allows beneficiaries to use someone else’s data bundle.

“Kindly be informed that effective Wednesday 21st July 2021, the Tugabane service will no longer be available on Freaky Friday, Freaky Holiday and Daily Data bundles,” the statement reads in part.

“Please note that you can gift Freaky Friday, Freaky Holiday and Daily Bundles by dialling *175 #, choose preferred bundle and select “buy for another”, Airtel stated.

In essence it means someone who has been sharing their daily bundle with family or friends will now have to buy them their own bundles. Only those on weekly and monthly bundles can share their data. Naturally this has not been well received by Airtel customers and they have made their feelings known to the telecom giant on Twitter. Below are some of the reactions.

You have failed us how can you do something like this during this period lemi throw your ki simcard and try @africellUG since they have good data prices they value us and our money

naye @Airtel_Ug some students were using tugabane to study online, this is so mean of you…omwavu wakufa

I think airtel is now losing its value. So you so that you nolonger deduct or chop data balances when they expire becoz people have been using tuganane as a way of finishing their data without it being choped after expiry date.
AirtelUg style up.
