“Hunger is killing us more than COVID-19,” Boda boda riders threaten to walk to State House if Gov’t does not lift lockdown

Boda boda riders surviving in the central business district and its suburbs have threatened to walk themselves up to State House and meet President Yoweri Museveni and directly tell him their grievances.  

The boda boda riders accuse government officials of being detached from the common person hence the reason they are feeding Museveni with inappropriate information.

The riders say before Museveni announced the second lockdown, they had already come up with safe measures of carrying passengers and they could arrest colleagues who were violating the set guidelines especially those that instead on carrying more than one passenger.

 They have threatened to walk to State House if Museveni does not lift lockdown. Boda boda riders were allowed to only carry language.

“Hunger is killing more people than COVID-19 and these Government officials know it, they just pretend not to but they don’t care. They should let us work, says one of the Boda boda rider.

They also decry a new ‘arrest method’ by Police.

“These days, Police officers have a new way of arresting us and that is by knocking us down and that’s sad,” says Boda boda rider.

President Museveni will address the nation on COVID-19 and any related issues this Saturday, July 31st at 8:00 pm.
