FINALLY! First batch of about 51 Afghan refugees arrive in Uganda

The first batch of about 51 Afghan refugees comprising of children, women and men arrived in Uganda today morning at Entebbe International Airport, confirms Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo.

Opondo reveals that the group arrived at 6.00am this morning aboard a privately chartered plane. They were received by Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and US Mission Uganda officials.

The group will first be tested for Covid-19 and then placed in isolation centers before being reintegrated.

After isolation period, they will be temporarily accommodated in hotels in Entebbe before they are taken to a yet to be identified location.

Last week, government agreed to host at least 2,000 refugees fleeing Afghanistan following the collapse of President Ashraf Ghani’s government.
