Cheptegei on final list for Male World Athlete of the Year 2021

With nine days to go for the World Male Athlete of the Year award, the World Athletics announced on Monday its final shortlist for “Male World Athlete of the Year 2021.”

For the third year in a row, ‘King’ Joshua Cheptegei has made it to the list.

Cheptegei is the current 5000m Olympics champion. He also won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 10,000m and currently holds the world record for two miles. He ran two miles (3.21 km) in 8:09.55 secs.

Kenya’s legendary marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge who has been in fine form this season is also on the final five list.

He won the Olympic gold in Tokyo by finishing with the largest margin in the men’s Olympic marathon since 1972 – winner of the Enschede Marathon.

The other three are; two-time Olympic medalist Ryan Crouser, Mondo Duplantis, and Karsten Warholm.
