Former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Badru Kiggundu has challenged his successor Justice Simon Byabakama to correct what he failed to do in managing previous elections.

Kiggundu said that Byabakama should make all his decisions basing on the Constitution to avoid putting the upcoming elections into question.

“I told Electoral Commission (EC) officials to study, understand and apply the law while conducting 2021 polls. EC Chairman Simon Byabakama said he’ll rectify what I failed to do, I’m watching closely to see how it goes,” said Kiggundu.

During the fourteen years that Kiggundu spent at the helm of Independent Electoral Commission, the commission oversaw three general elections, in 2006, 2011 and 2016. In 2006 and 2016, the presidential election results were challenged in Uganda’s Supreme Court, but in both cases, the Court ruled in favor of the incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni.
