Four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has described the recently concluded elections as a ‘war to maintain President Yoweri Museveni in power.’

While addressing the press at his Katonga Road office, Besigye said that the military junta excelled in their tools used in maintaining power as all guns were brought out during elections.

Besigye said that he’s not surprised that all the six general elections Uganda has had have never been free and fair hence the country is still held captive using guns.

According to Besigye, the 2021 election has confirmed to those who were in doubt that Museveni’s military junta can be ousted through a ballot have learnt that he only uses elections to smear legitimacy on his stay in power.

Besigye said that Ugandans have no right at anything happening in the country.

“With this regime, your life, property and human rights can be taken at any time,” said Besigye.

On the way forward, Besigye said that it’s about time Ugandans reclaim their citizenship by deciding on which side to struggle from, either on the side of the oppressor or side of the oppressed.

“Our struggle is not a contestation for office. It is to become citizens again with equal opportunities, right among others,” he said before assuring Ugandans that ousting Museveni is doable if they get united.

He said that freedom can never come without pain.
