Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso has claimed that Uganda is in total peace despite a few incidents of insecurities that the armed forces and other security agencies are working upon to clear up.

Byekwaso says security forces are mandated to work towards sustaining peace and also be accountable of every single life of citizens.

On the current spate of abductions,  Byekwaso claims that security forces are going by their mandate of arresting those they suspect to be involved in crime but the public is only misinterpreting their missions since their mode of arrest is under contention.

“When people call them abductions, I wonder because can a Government abduct its people? I think they are arrests though the mode of arrest is currently under contention,” says Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso.

Over the weekend, President Yoweri Museveni admitted to the recent wave of ‘kidnaps’ but ordered security agencies to publically announce all the suspects they have in custody.

Museveni said that the arrested individuals especially in the Buganda region are linked to having plans to destabilise the country.
