Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has kicked off its investigation on controversial Top Television presenter Joan Lule Nakintu for breaching the minimum broadcasting standards.

In a notice from UCC Director Irene Kagwa Sewankambo to Top Radio Managing Director dated February 24, UCC says that they got a complaint about the content and nature of programming broadcast by Top Radio (89.6) Kampala.

In the complaint, Luyimbazi Nalukoola alleges that Top Radio through its presenter Joan Lule and the program ‘Sitima Yamaka’ that aired on February 19 contained false, defamatory and malicious statements.

Luyimbazi accuses Lule of acting unprofessional and lacking objectivity as she accused the complainant  of having a plan to steal Late Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata’s property by including nonfamily members in the petition that intends to share the late’s estate.

UCC reveals that their preliminary reviews confirm that the presenter made the statements.

“The statements contained many allegations made by the presenter that if proven, would constitute breach of Law, the minimum broadcasting standards as enshrined in Section 31 and Schedule 4 of the UCC Act 2013,” says UCC in a notice.

UCC’s notice to the station come after Luyimbazi through his lawyers Reeve Advocates wrote to UCC complaining about the unprofessionalism of the presenter.
