Minister for ICT Judith Nabakooba has said that If Ugandans want bars to reopen and curfew lifted, they should quickly get vaccinated.

On Friday while giving his national address about COVID-19, President Yoweri Museveni provided a road map that will help most of the closed sectors to reopen. He said that ban on physical music events, bars and curfew hours will remain until 5.5 million Ugandans are vaccinated against COVID-19.

As per yesterday, a cumulative total of 227,691 persons had been vaccinated against COVID-19. Nabakooba said that so far, the numbers of people showing up for vaccination are still very low. She said the reopening  is going to depend on how quickly people show up for vaccination.

“Less than 10% have so far shown up for vaccination ever since the exercise started a month ago. His Excellency the President made it clear that we have to vaccinate up to 80% of the risk categories before full reopening. This shows us that there is still a lot of work to be done,” said Nabakooba.

She urged the private sector to join the job of mobilizing and educating people about vaccination.

“All private sector players including the artists, (musicians) need to come out now and use their spaces calling upon the public to embrace the vaccination.

There has been a lot of misinformation about the Covid-19 vaccine. This could explain the low turn up at most of the vaccination centers,” she said.
