Comedy Store Uganda proprietor Alex Muhangi is furious at some promoters who shared amongst themselves a stimulus fund meant for all Ugandan promoters.
Muhangi is angry that his business which has been a source of livelihood for a number artistes and service providers has not been considered for the stimulus funds.
On Thursday, Muhangi expressed his anger on his social media pages citing that some people who claim to be events promoters shared the funds amounting to Shs 6.5bn amongst themselves.
According Muhangi the stimulus fund given to all Ugandan promoters by Gen Salim Saleh as a compensation of what they lost during Covid19 lockdown is said to have disappeared from Abitex’s hands, Bajjo Events, Abu Kyanze among others who are not even known by the public.
“We hear a small section of people got this money worth Shs6.5billions and shared it amongst themselves. Who are these people? None of the so called Promoters who decide for us has a weekly or a monthly event,” Muhangi’s stated in his post.
Muhangi went on and narrated that Comedy Store as a business should have benefitted from the stimulus package since it was a source of livelihood for not only artists but also other service providers, who were guaranteed income every week.
“The platform suffered losses from a cancelled upcountry tour which was due to begin when Covid struck. We had already spent significantly on marketing. All the requisite paperwork to support this was handed in to the authorities last year. The show also incurred a financial loss as we had booked artists from Wasafi Tanzania that were slated to perform in July of 2020,” Muhangi narrated in his post.
He further added that, he pointed out the losses that his show and performers endured due to the travel restrictions brought about by Covid19.
Muhangi who has been organizing Comedy Store for over 5 years said that since he is a businessman every month he remits to URA returns and there is evidence to back him up and that this should qualify his business for the stimulus.
