The death of a fourth year law student at Makerere University Natasha Byenjeru who committed suicide on June 6, has sparked the mental health topic and suicidal confessions on social media.

The overwhelming confessions on social media inspired renowned DJ Aludah to share how he overcame suicidal thoughts last year.

“This time last year I was on the verge of taking my own life. I don’t want to get into details but if you’re out there and you’re against the ropes, give yourself 5 minutes then an hour, then a day  and another day, take it one day at a time. While at it speak to someone,” posted DJ Aludah.

Byenjeru who joined the University in 2015 is said to have given up on life after sitting for a course unit called Business Associations II for the third time.

According to the Observer On June 1, she made her third and last attempt at passing the paper but shortly after coming out, she told her friends that the exam was harder than expected.

“she had performed poorly in coursework after missing out on marks for class presentations via zoom so she knew it was always going to be an uphill task in the final exam,” the publication quoted the deceased’s friend.

Byenjeru was depressed because she didn’t know what to tell her parents and most of her friends that she started the course with are already advocates of High Court.
