On Monday this week, Former Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s singing partner Ali Bukeni (Nubian Li), bodyguard Eddy Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe, producer Daniel Brenny Oyerwot alias Dan Magic and 15 others were released on bail by the General Court Martial after being incarcerated for six months.

The group was arrested in December while on a campaign trail of Bobi Wine in Kalangala district.

Nubian Li has given his account about torture and inhumane treatment during their 6-month incarceration at Kitalya Prison.

“From the time I decided to support Bobi Wine on his new journey of politics, I expected three things to happen (torture, arrest and death) since we were challenging the regime,” said Nubian.

According to Nubian, when they got arrested from Kalangala, they moved to eight prisons in a space of just nine days before they were brought to court and charged with illegal possession of a gun and four bullets.

While in prison, Nubian Li said they endured several humiliations to break their spirits and these included being undressed, forced to wear the yellow prison uniform and also cutting off their hair.

“My wife and children cried when they saw me wearing the yellow uniform and my head clearly shaved,” he narrated.

He also said that they were denied access to information as their books were not always allowed in and the prison TV became the only option most of the time.

“I could tell my colleagues from outside to bring me books but the prison officers could confiscate them on orders from ‘above.’ Then TV was the other option but we could only watch Museveni addresses, cartoons and Chinese movies,” he said.

Despite him and the group being out on bail, Nubian stated that many Bobi Wine supporters are suffering in crowded prisons with no charges against them. He has urged the public to continuously demand for the release of their comrades.
