President Yoweri Museveni is set to address the nation at 8pm on how the government is responding to the second wave eruption of COVID-19 infections.

There’s speculation that there’ll be stricter regulations to curb the spread of the virus. The address follows a special sitting of National COVID-19 Taskforce that considered recommendations.

“Fellow Countrymen, Countrywomen, Bazukulu, I will address the country today at 8:00 pm on a number of issues but mostly the COVID-19 situation.  I call upon you to tune in to the different radio and TV stations for this address,” Museveni said in a tweet.

Sources in the National Task Force confirmed the President was due to announce new measures to help curb the spread of the virus which has seen an increased number of deaths and infections across the country.

Among the expected new restrictions is a two-week lockdown, ban of public and private vehicles and closure of a few business sectors that have failed to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
