President Yoweri Museveni has said that his new government must be one of service delivery as they should work for patriotism.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony of his new cabinet at Kololo Independence grounds earlier today, Museveni stated that no one should be in a public office if they do not have love for their country.

“We don’t want parasites in public service,” said Museveni as he disclosed that there is no bribery or corruption he is not aware of and government is devising ways of catching the corrupt in their acts.

“The only problem is that the people that report to me seem to be cowards as they don’t want to be quoted,” Museveni said.

He added, “I don’t want to hear any more outcries from the people. People are crying because of evictions. This cabinet must look into that.”

Museveni’s remarks about corruption come amid outcry from the opposition players and the public at large demanding for accountability of the COVID-19 funds that were released last year to address various issues during the March 2020 COVID-19 outbreak.

Besides donations worth billions, Parliament approved a supplementary budget of Shs284b to enable government respond to the pandemic through its different entities. The National treasury distributed the approved funds to 134 districts and 11 ministries, departments and agencies.

And according to Auditor General John Muwanga’s report that was released last week,  a total of 25 government entities made procurements worth Shs143.84b received as part of the Covid 19 response without following the proper procurement guidelines issued.

The report stated that some of the entities involved in the mismanagement of funds included; Ministry of Health (Shs100b), Ministry of Defence (Shs16b), Uganda Police Force (Shs21.2b),Uganda Prisons Services (Shs3.4b), Office of the President (Shs123m), Buikwe District Local Government (Shs2.4b), Lira DLG(Shs21m),Kween (Shs76m), Dokolo (Shs63m) Butebo(Shs54,4m).
