The Deputy IGP, Maj Gen Paul Lokech has disclosed that today morning three more suspects in the attempted assassination of former Army Commander Gen Katumba Wamala have been shot dead in Kanyogoga, Namuwongo in Makindye Division, Kampala.

Speaking to the media, Lokech said that the operation was led by the Crime Intelligence Director, Christopher Ddamulira. He said suspects were found in their room but they resisted arrest prompting the security operative to shoot them dead.

Two SMG guns and a pistol were recovered from one of the rooms of the dead suspects.

Yesterday Lokech gave a detailed report about their breakthrough in the gang that is suspected to be behind recent assassinations of prominent people in the city. He said the recovered guns were used in the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

Before today, four people suspected to have masterminded the attempted assassination of Gen Katumba on 1/6/2021 were arrested.

Lokech said they killed one suspect Hussein Wahab Lubwama aka Master after he resisted arrest. The group is linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels based in DR Congo.

On June 1, four gunmen riding on two motorcycles ambushed Gen Katumba in Kisaasi, a Kampala suburb injuring him and instantly killing his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo.
