Opposition Chief Whip and acting party president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) John-Baptist Nambeshe has revealed that their party Members of Parliament will not be returning the Shs200m given to each MP in the 11th parliament to buy new cars.

On Wednesday, the Director of Communication at Parliament, Chris Obore said that government had availed funds to the legislative arm to facilitate each of the 529 MPs and the 26 ex-officio members to purchase brand cars.

The development has since become a topic of discussion with many asking what the MPs of the leading opposition group in parliament (NUP) will do with the money.

In a statement released by the party and signed by Nambeshe, he said the party already discussed the issue and ruled out returning the money.

“The option of returning the money to the consolidated fund was discussed but not taken up because the same regime will not put the money to a meaningful or proper use,” said Nambeshe.

He further explained that with the fact being that each constituency has specific needs and challenges, they also ruled out going for one project.

He said part of the money will be injected towards development of the party and running of its activities.
