With many anticipating tonight’s Presidential address following a 42 day lockdown that ends today, many are hoping for the lockdown to be lifted.
According to New vision, President Museveni is going to lift the lockdown in a phased manner, allow public transport to resume and commercial centres to reopen for operation under strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures.
“Kampala city’s commercial centre,Kikuubo will be reopened, but required to operate as a wholesale trading centre. The kiosks and roadside vending in Kikuubo will be abolished,” states the publication.
The publication states that during a meeting between President Museveni and the National Covid 19 Taskforce, the team agreed to allow public transport operate but at a 50% capacity.
Private vehicles will also be allowed to move across district borders. The vehicles will however be limited to carrying only three persons including the driver while bodas will be allowed to carry only one passenger.
Places of worship and schools to remain closed while restrictions on weddings, funerals and public gatherings will be maintained. Curfew will be maintained at 7:00pm to 5:30am.
On June 18, President Museveni instituted the 42 day lockdown to curb the spread of Covid 19 and deaths that were getting out of hand.
